The National Population Commission in Anambra State has organized a one-day meeting with media executives on the postponement of 2023 population and housing census.
The Commissioner representing Anambra State in the Commission, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke, who listed progress made so far for the success of the exercise before it was suspended said the postponement was in order for the Tinubu administration to oversee the exercise because of its importance for economic planning and national development.
He thanked successive Anambra State Governments for various support for the success of the exercise in the state, urging citizens to ready themselves for the event.
Contributing, the Anambra State Director of National Population Commission, Mr. Joachin Ulasi, who explained that preparations for the exercise started in 2014, noted that the twenty-one Local Government Areas of the State have been properly demarcated for the success of the exercise and thanked the Anambra Broadcasting Service and other Media establishments for their support.
Head of Technical Unit , National Population Commission, Mrs Chinyere Mmaduagwuna, reminded all that the exercise is fully digitized and that indigenously produced software’s will be used for its conduct.
In his remarks, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Paul Nwosu, said National Population Commission and the state government have done much to sensitize citizens for the exercise, and expressed the hope that when eventually conducted, it will meet expectations of Nigerians.
On his part, the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, represented by the Director of News and Current Affairs Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, said ABS will continue to give necessary support for the success of the exercise.
Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Dr Emeka Odogwu, other media executives and practitioners at the event called for proper use of the media and local announcers in sensitizing the citizenry on the importance of the exercise.
