The All Nigeria Confederation Of Principals Of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Anambra State branch has held its 2023 State Congress with a charge on the principals to bring back the virtues for which they are known for and hand it over to the next generation.
The State Congress held at Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, attracted principals and education officers from across the state.
The conference was declared open by the chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu who asked the principals to always bear in mind that they are at the centre of learning activities in schools and as such, should always strive to create cordial relationship between them and their staff to ensure high productivity in the staff.
The PPSSC Chairman asked them to attract philanthropists, scholarship schemes and infrastructural developments to their schools using their PTA and alumni associations and to avoid illegal collections of all forms of money from students as well as monitor the activities of their staff by having internal supervision.
The Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi, informed them that as the BECE examination is going on there will be a nationwide monitoring and advised the principals to be vigilant and guard against examination malpractice.
The State President, ANCOPSS, Anambra state branch, Mr. Jovita Arazu commemded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for all his efforts at positioning the state education sector in the forefront of his administration which he said, has resulted in the many awards and laurels won by Anambra State both within and outside the country.
In her welcome address the Zonal Chairman of Nnewi ANCOPSS, Mrs. Kenechi Ukatu welcomed all that attended the congress, especially Professor Ikediugwu and her team for standing by ANCOPSS and thanked God for making the event possible.
In their separate remarks, a representative of the management of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, Reverend Ndubisi Onyia and the Principal of the school, Mrs. Uchechukwu Edum, said there are benefits of attending conferences as it provides an opportunity for people of like minds to rub minds together concerning their similar challenges and how to deal with them.
In a paper presentation titled, “Lapses often noticed during monitoring of Schools in Anambra State, the Director SEQAD, Lady Nkechi Adinnuh, mentioned these lapses, their consequences, how to deal with them and pointed out that education without high quality is worthless and cannot guarantee development.
Other resource persons include, Mrs Gloria Elechi who spoke on “Equipping the principals with valuable information for effective financial management of schools” and Lady Ebele Okoli who spoke on “Equipping the principals with valuable information for the effective management of schools “.
Introduction of the ANCOPSS executives, inauguration of new principals, welcome song, cultural dance were some of the side attractions that featured at the congress.
