The Department of Family Medicine, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi in conjunction with the hospital has given free medical services to the people of Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area.
The free medical exercise was held at Comprehensive Health Centre, Umunya.
The services rendered by the Department include health promotions, free screening for common ailments, free eye care services and free medical consultations among others.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Florence Ekweogu who is a Senior Registrar in the Department of Family Medicine, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, said that they saw the need to render the free medical services to the people of the community to promote their healthy wellbeing.
Dr. Ekweogu who noted that Comprehensive Health Centre Umunya is one of their outstations, maintained that they will keep expanding such free medical services to other communites to achieve a healthy enviroment.
The Head of Department, Comprehensive Health Centre Umunya, Dr. Chibuzor Nwachuyia told the ABS that the free medical services is their corporate social responsibility to the community that houses one of their outstations and urged Ndi Umunya to utilize the opportunity to improve on their health status.
Earlier, the President General, Umunya Development Union, Chief Innocent Nwabueze thanked the Department for the good gesture and pledged that the Community will continue to support the hospital in the infrastructural developmet of the outstation in Umunya.
One of the beneficiaries of the exercise, Mr. Joseph Okoye thanked their benefactor for remembering them, noting that good health remains the best gift one can offer anybody.
