The committee which is one of the criteria for a state to qualify for the National Social Safety Nets Projects-Scale Up, NASSP-SU, was inaugurated at the Government House Awka, by the state Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
The National Social Safety Nets project, NASSP, one of the social investment programs of the immediate past government of Buhari led administration, was established in 2016 with the support of the World Bank, to reduce poverty and its associated vulnerability through provision of access to targeted cash transfer for poor and vulnerable households under an expanded social safety nets system.
Anambra state has been benefiting from this project as the first phase ended in the year 2022.
To institutionalize the National Social Safety Nets Project and consolidate on its impact, the federal government has integrated it into the National Social Investment Program, NSIP, and secured additional financing of eight hundred million Dollars from World Bank to implement National Social Safety Nets Projects-Scale Up, NASSP-SU, which aims at expanding coverage of responsive Social Safety Nets support among the poor and vulnerable, while strengthening the national delivery system.
Inaugurating the group, the Anambra state Governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim reminded them of the need to be committed and deliver on their mandate, pointing out that the project is one among the numerous others that is of great importance to the present government because of its ability to positively change the fortunes of women, the poor and vulnerable in the state.
Speaking on behalf of others, the Chairman of the committee, and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Stephanie Kelly-Uzor, thanked the Governor for finding them worthy to contribute their quota in the developmental agenda of his administration, promising that they will deliver on their mandate.
The committee has Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake as its Chairperson, the Coordinator, State Operation Coordinating Unit, Mrs Nkoli Anyaegbunam as the secretary, while Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, that of Women Affairs, Lady Ify Obinabo, Engineer Felix Odimegwu of Environment Ministry, Mr Foster Ihejiofor of Agriculture Ministry, Commissioner for Youth Development Mr Patrick Agha-Mba, and that of Health, Dr Afam Obidike, are members.
Others are the State Operations Coordinating Unit, an office that is responsible for generation of social register for the program and other social investment programs in the state, Focal Person on SDG, representatives of House Committee on Social Investment and Poverty Alleviation, Workers Organizations, People living with disability, Civil Society Organisations, National Identity Management Agency, Pension Commission, Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Anambra state Health Insurance Agency, Anambra Chamber of Commerce, Anambra State Cash Transfer Unit, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Development Partner Coordination.
