Anambra State Ministry of Justice, has organized a one-day sensitization seminar for law officers, magistrates and police prosecutors in the state to enhance expeditious dispensation of justice in fulfilment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s manifesto.

The programme has the theme “the import and implementation of Anambra State new Multi-door Court House Law and amended Administration of Criminal Justice Law, ACJL.

 

According to the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, the ACJL provides for the administration of criminal justice system which promotes efficient management of criminal justice institutions, speedy dispensation of justice, protection of the society from crimes and protection of rights and interest of the suspect, the defendant and victims in Nigeria.

She affirmed that Governor Soludo’s administration is poised to ensure that justice is expeditiously dispensed in the state, telling the participants that if they effectively realize the importance of the two innovative laws and implement them religiously, delay of dispensation of justice will become a thing of the past.

In their remarks, the state Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, represented by Justice David Onyefulu, Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, and Barrister Chineze Obianyo, who lectured on the implementation of the Multi-door Court System in the contemporary Nigerian Society: imperative for a speedy and efficient justice delivery, lauded the ministry for organizing the seminar.

 

Speaking on “diligent prosecution of state cases”, the state Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Ngozi Iwuno, charged law officers on the need to show care and effort in the conduct of legal proceedings as well as handle with utmost diligence, any duty assigned to them from the Ministry and represent the interest of their clients or state well.

One of the guest speakers, Dr. Mike Anyadiegwu, who took them on “Innovation of the administration of criminal justice of Anambra State 2022”, said the review of ACJL became necessary in order to meet modern trend in criminal justice administration, calling on the Attorney General to see that the new criminal code that has been reviewed is given necessary legal framework by the State House of Assembly.
