Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has explained that most foundational problems facing today’s society arose from the inability of most parents to instill the right behavioural and moral values in their children.

Mrs Soludo, who was speaking in Awka, noted that the first and cardinal responsibility of a parent is to guide the child to be a moral mirror that represents a functional home and society, pointing out that any parent that fails in that regard has failed the entire society.

The Governor’s wife, who lamented the continuous shortfall in moral principles of the contemporary society, advised parents against setting the wrong standards for their children or devalued the relevance of exemplary conduct and community’s importance in child raising.

She reminded religious institutions, schools, communities and government of their roles in child upbringing .

The Governor’s wife, while explaining that raising a child whose ways of life reflect a responsible home and society is everybody’s business, reaffirmed the ageless socio-cultural philosophy that raising a child is a community affair.

She also explained that it is important to encourage children to embrace the right tradition and culture, including imbibing values of hard work, respect, patience, humility, truth, resilience and pride of their mother tongue, among others.

Mrs Soludo further charged every institution that has a stake in child upbringing to show more commitment to the task.
