The Anambra State Government has held a one-day engagement meeting with the Association of Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, Anambra state chapter with a call for synergy and collaborations to enhance service delivery in the health sector of the state.
The meeting which was held in Awka attracted members of the association from parts of the state.
Addressing the participants, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike represented by the Director of Medical Services in the Ministry, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu who thanked the private medical practitioners for attending the meeting said that it was called for both the government and the practitioners to review the state of the health care service delivery in Anambra, including quality and coverage.
Dr. Obidike told the participants that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is determined to work with them to improve the state’s health sector, since they take up to seventy-percent of health care delivery in the state.
The Commissioner, however, frowned at the attitude of some practitioners who show lackadaisical attitude towards registration and renewal of their licenses and said that the meeting will afford them the opportunity to cross-fertilize ideas in order to resolve some issues.
The Anambra state Chairman, Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners, Dr. Sylvia Ezievuo, expressed delight over the meeting which he revealed that such had not been held for about three years now and promised that the association is ready to work with the state government to improve the state healthcare system.
The Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Anambra state chapter, Dr. Jane Ezeonu, represented by the Secretary of the association, Dr. Frank Ifeaneme, commended the state government for providing an enabling environment for the interaction and hoped that the meeting will help to bring out pragmatic policies that would be mutually beneficial to them for the betterment of the citizenry who seek medical services in Anambra.
Presentations were made on different issues including from Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, medical waste and data collection.
