The new Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderemi Adeoye has assured Ndi Anambra of improved security across the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeoye gave the assurance when he addressed journalists at the state Police Command Headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.
Mr Adeoye listed some of the achievements of the Police Command within the short period he resumed duty, including interception and killing of two armed robbers around Uga-Ezinifite expressway and recovering of one of the operational vehicles, Lexus 350 Jeep, two automatic pump action guns, eleven live cartridges, one cell phone, among other incriminating items from them.
He also revealed that the police in collaboration with Anambra state Vigilante group at Ichida-bus stop along Ichida-Igboukwu Road rescued a kidnapped victim, neutralized two members of the notorious gang, recovered one AK47 rifle, highlander jeep belonging to the victim, and noted that preliminary information revealed that the deadly gang of eight operating with two vehicles, a grey highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350, abducted the victim in her ash colour highlander jeep.
The CP said that investigations are still on to track and apprehend the remaining members of the gang, and called on operators of both public and private hospitals to admit but report anyone with a bullet wound or related injuries to the nearest police station.
Mr Adeoye also during the press briefing disclosed that he has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer in charge of B Division Awka, following allegations of extortion against him by citizens of the state, explaining that investigations are ongoing and if the DPO is eventually found guilty of the allegations, he will be made to face the law, as according to him, the state Police command under his watch will not allow harassment or extortion of the citizens now that government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo is working tirelessly to restore nightlife and investments to the state.
