The National Association of Nigeria Drug Monitoring, Anambra state chapter has been Inaugurated in Awka.

 

The Inauguration which was performed by the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Drug and Narcotics attracted relevant stakeholders from within and outside the State.

Speaking during the Inauguration, the representative of the Joint Committee, Mr. Hassan Mohammed, said that drug abuse, illicit drug and trafficking is now a global problem that demands all hands to be on deck to check.

 

Mr. Mohammed said that illicit drug business according to statistics is a thirty-two-billion-dollar enterprise and drug and narcotics abuse causes physical, economical and emotional damage to the society, and advised members of the association in Anambra state to be dedicated to the new task.

The Executive Secretary, National Association of Nigerian Drug Monitoring, Dr. Christabel Okoye said that illicit drug use has become a national embarrassment, and that about fifteen percent of Nigerian youths engage in illicit drugs trafficking and usage and said that efforts must be in top gear to end the ugly trend.

 

The Director-General of National Association of Nigerian Drug Monitoring, Anambra state chapter, Dr. Paulinus Onyeka, said that they will do their job efficiently and advised youths of the state to stay away from illicit drugs.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency delivered a lecture during the event, which was used to confer awards on some individuals as ambassadors of the association.
