The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has asked accredited observer groups in the just concluded 2023 general elections to submit their reports as their recommendations will be helpful in the electoral process.

Its Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who made the call at a meeting with Civil Society Organizations, on the review of the 2023 general elections in Abuja, said, only thirty percent of the accredited groups have submitted their reports.

According to him, even though the Commission received five hundred and thirty-eight requests, five hundred and four domestic and thirty-four foreign observers who came for accreditation, only two hundred and twenty-eight of them, one hundred and ninety domestic and thirty-eight foreign observers, met the requirements for accreditation and out of this number, only sixty-seven, sixty-two domestic and five foreign, observers have so far submitted their reports.

He said the Commission was meticulous in its preparations for the election and there have been many positive developments to show for it but affirmed that there were many challenges encountered before and during the elections.

The Executive Director of the Centre for Transparency Advocacy Faith Nwadishi, while speaking on behalf of the Civil Society Organizations, appealed to observer groups accredited for the election to submit their report to the commission to enable them take appropriate actions based on recommendations to encourage participation in politics.
