The Amakor village Nanka in Orumba North local government area has called the attention of Anambra state government to the perceived marginalization of the village by the royal stool of the town as well as the Nanka Patriotic Union, over what they called their rightful demand for the position of Onowu Nanka.

The chairman of Amakor village, Mr. Obinna Iloh who made the call in Awka, alleged that the traditional ruler of Nanka community and the Nanka Patriotic Union excluded them from the palm and coconut seedlings distribution and other government interventions that came into Nanka.

The leadership of Amakor through their chairman Mr. Obinna Iloh in a media briefing, lamented the untold hardship they have been suffering from the traditional stool and Nanka Patriotic Union since the community decided to destabilize the village administration by appointing the Traditional Prime Minister of the community from Umudala instead of Amakor village.

According to Mr. Iloh who was represented by the Assistant Secretary of the village Mr. Patrick Okoli, going by Nanka traditions, customs, constitution, rights, privileges and responsibilities are shared in order of seniority among the seven villages that make up Nanka community which are Agbiligba, Enugwu, Ifite, Amakor, Umudala, Ubahu and Etti.

Mr. Iloh said that by the demise of late Igwe Gilbert Ofomata of Enugwu Nanka village, it became the right of the third village, which is Ifite village to produce the next Igwe, in the person of Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, but instead of allowing Amakor village which is next in order of seniority to produce the Onowu of the community, they allotted the position to the fifth village, Umudala which according to him is against the constitution of the community.

He expressed worry that the traditional ruler and Nanka Patriotic Union are making plans to pull down a security gate they built in their village to prevent criminals entertaining or using their community as escape route after operations, lamenting that prior to the building of the gate ,they had faced many problems in the hands of hoodlums which prompted them to construct the security gate and appealed to government to intervene in the matter by directing the traditional ruler and Nanka Patriotic Union not to pull down the security gate.

The chairman also called on the state government to direct the leadership of the town to return all the palm and coconut seedlings and other palliatives due to Amakor village to enable them share them among the registered Ndi Amakor.

The village added that they should be allowed to operate independently until the town return the Onowu Nanka stool to Amakor.

Reacting on the allegations, the President General, Nanka Patriotic Union, Mr. Ifeanyi Ezike said that all the issues have been existing before he assumed office, but said that the matter has been reported to the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs who has directed him to settle the issue and ensure that peace returns.

Mr. Ezike while assuring that Nanka is a peaceful community said that he has constituted a committee that will resolve the issues and noted that they have no plans to pull down the gate wondering why the leadership of the village will go public on issues that are almost resolved.
