Federal Cooperative College, Oji River Enugu State, in collaboration with Uwamabogu Legacy Limited has empowered over fifty Women in Aguata Federal Constituency with cash prizes.
The empowerment followed a four-day intensive skill acquisition training facilitated by the member representing Aguata Federal Constituency, Honourable Dominic Okafor.
The beneficiaries were trained in catering and pastries, cosmetology, diet, making of custard, chin chin, among others.
Held at Aguata Local Government Headquarters, the training was meant to equip the trainees with tools capable of transforming their lives and families.
Honourable Okafor represented by the member representing Primary schools in the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Lady Chinyere Mbakwe, said the programme was borne out of the desire to alleviate sufferings and reduce the level of unemployment and poverty in Aguata Federal Constituency.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge and skills they garnered to profitable use; to be able to train other interested persons in chosen skills, as well as become employers of labor.
A stakeholder in Aguata Local Government Area, Chief Greg Anabogu, and a Legislative aide to Honourable Okafor, Chief Geoffrey Umeanuka, noted that the federal lawmaker started on a good note, barely two months he assumed office, and maintained that the empowerment programme will help reduce unemployment in the constituency.
A representative of Federal Cooperative College Oji River, Mr. Anthony Unwazu, emphasized the importance of life-changing skills for Nigerians, urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the empowerment programme in order to attract more support from the lawmaker.
The trainer, Mrs. Beatrice Ifunanya, said the empowerment to women is a step in the right direction, as women play crucial role in the development of any society.
Some of the beneficiaries, including MrsTeresa Anabogu and Mrs. Maryann Udeafor, prayed for and thanked Honourable Okafor for the empowerment, and promised to put the knowledge and resources to good use.
