Anambra State House of Assembly has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Commissioner for Education, Chairman Post Primary School Service Commission for the state coming first in the recently conducted 2023 Malaysian International debate championship.

 

The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Anaocha Constituency Two, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu during plenary.

Honourable Okechukwu expressed joy that Anambra State Debate Team made up of Ezechukwu Emmanuel, Promise Mbachu, Okey Okonkwo, John Obioma and Blessing Okafor represented Nigeria at the Malaysian International School Debate this August and emerged champions.

The legislator noted that the massive investment made by the Governor in the Education sector by employing five thousand teachers and other infrastructural development and policy implementations are beginning to yield fruits in the state.

 

On his part, the member representing Awka South Constituency One, Honourable Henry Mbachu commended the students for making Anambra State and Nigeria proud by emerging champions in the debate, and urged the state government to keep investing heavily in education so that the state will continue to record progress in education.

In their contributions, the member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Honourable Augustine Ike, and the member representing Onitsha South Two Constituency, Honourable Jude Umennajiego added that Anambra State is being celebrated globally because of wonderful performance of the students in the international debate competition, and lauded Governor Soludo for introducing reforms in the Education sector.

 

Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze also applauded the students for making Nigeria proud, and read out the resolution of the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.

Also at the plenary, a bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Peace and Conflict Management Agency sponsored by the member representing Njikoka Constituency Two, Dr. Jude Akpua scaled the second reading.

 

Similarly, a bill for a law to prohibit trafficking in persons, enforce and administer measures against trafficking in persons also scaled second reading.
