Anambra State Government mourns the loss of the baby rescued from pit toilet three days after birth, at Otuocha, Anambra East Council Area.
The news of his death was received on Wednesday hours after treatment commenced at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka.
All efforts to resuscitate the baby including administration of oxygen and fluids with cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the hospital proved abortive.
Reacting to the news, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare Mrs Ify Obinabo, appreciated the efforts of the doctors at COOUTH, Amaku Awka praying God to receive the soul of the baby.
Mrs Obinabo advised young girls to always use protection if they cannot abstain from sex to avoid unwanted pregnancy and further told them to go to their state government’s women affairs ministry if they get pregnant and do not want to keep the baby.
She explained that every state ministry of women affairs is saddled with the responsibility of providing shelter for anyone who wishes not to have her child after birth.
On the fate of the twenty-year-old, Ebonyi state indigene, who committed the crime, Mrs Obinabo said the law will take its full course saying that she is already in Police custody.
