Major streets in Onitsha are witnessing reconstruction and rehabilitation work awarded by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
The roads recently reports that massive work was on going on all the streets visited.
Among the streets visited were Ozomagana-Ziks Avenue Fegge Onitsha which is three kilometers, one hundred and fifty meters, and More street Iweka- road, Onitsha which is two point three kilometers in length.
At the Ozomagana-Ziks Avenue, Engineers of Grandstar construction company, the firm handling the project were seen desilting drainages and carrying out earthwork simultaneously.
Speaking to the ABS, the Project’s Chief Supervisor, Engineer Christopher Anameje said they have desilted over four hundred meters of drainage and cleared walk way of about one point five meters on both sides of the road.
Engineer Anameje noted that after the drainage desilting, they will focus on repair of the drainage which he said has collapsed portions, adding that they have written for approval to do concrete construction of drainage on those sides that have gone bad completely before they will lay stone base.
At Moore street-Iweka road, earth work was going on at the site.
It was also observed that construction of kebbs on top of the existing drainage was on going alongside the earth work.
Speaking at the site , the Site Supervisor Engineer Edmund Chukwuemeka explained that the work which started in July, has six months time schedule to be completed and said they have covered about five hundred- and fifty-meters earth work and would soon complete earth work before moving into stone base.
The chairman of Moore Street market Mr. Anthony Malizu, appreciated Governor Soludo for deeming it necessary to give them access road and commended the contractor for doing a quality job.
