Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo says one of the visions of her health crusade is to get every Anambra youth on board and see them become leading ambassadors for everything the campaign wishes to achieve.
Mrs. Soludo stated this during the community youth engagement for her non-governmental movement, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, at Orumba North local government headquarters, Ajalli.
The essence of the ongoing grassroots engagements is to expand the scope of the programme to involve youths, who would then lead the campaign in their respective communities.
Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, a health-based non-political crusade founded by Anambra Governor’s wife, has been engaging critical stakeholders to ensure that the core message of the campaign become a household culture in all Anambra homes.
Addressing the youths, Mrs. Soludo who spoke virtually, said that the major aim of the crusade is to promote responsible and healthy lifestyle as a key to livable and prosperous Anambra State.
She noted that each of the six pillars of her program has been carefully tailored to address common health, social and environmental threats and maintained that to get results from ongoing engagements, everyone has to become a critical player.
The governor’s wife also appealed to youths to be fully involved in the exercise, with an understanding that they can give the campaign a stronger verve.
Mrs. Soludo further raised her concerns about growing rate of drug abuse among youths, as well as preventable deaths that occur as a result of common emergencies, stating that by teaching the youths skill on basic life support, they would be prepared to handle such cases and also teach others.
Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike said that youths are important to lasting success of the healthy living crusade, noting that a crucial aspect of the engagements is to equip youths with the basic knowledge of the program.
Dr. Obidike who also gave teaching on the elementary techniques for basic life support, observed that with the rising cases of cardiovascular related mortalities, youths who learnt the techniques can become great assets for the full program implementation.
On his part, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North, Sir Ogochukwu Ekwueme commended Mrs. Soludo for taking her program to the grassroots, and promised to mobilize support to help the crusade succeed in the area.
Teams from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society were also on ground to give teachings and practical lessons on the effects of drug abuse and basic life support, BLS.
The Youth Leader of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Comrade Ken Okoli, youth leaders and representatives from the sixteen communities in Orumba North, corps members and members of the transition committee of the local government, were at the event.
