The founder, Ugommuta Foundation, Professor Francis Okafor has led family members, friends, and sympathizers to mourn the demise of his son in-law, Dr Roberts Onebunne who died at the age of fifty-eight.

Dr Onebunne who was buried at his country home, Umuekpili village, Ula Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area was until his demise the Chief Medical Officer, United Nations Support Office, in Somalia.

His body lay in state in his country home where close family members and relatives paid last respects before leaving for Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Ekwulobia for a requiem mass in his honour.

 

At the Church, priests, Catholic faithful, family, friends and sympathizers were on hand to receive his body, pray and commit his soul to peaceful repose.

For a man described by many as an achiever, mentor, motivator, godly and selfless, it was not surprising that the funeral mass attracted many dignitaries from within and outside the state including the traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, Igwe Emmanuel Onyeneke and his wife, a former Chairman, Aguata Local Government Area, Chief Titus Anagbogu, members of Old Seminarians Association of Nigeria and the former colleagues of the Late Dr Onebunne at United Nations Support Office in Somalia.

Delivering a homily at the funeral mass, a visiting priest, Reverend Father Boniface Ezeoke who was also a former school mate of the deceased at All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha, reflected on the ephemerality of life and underscored the importance that every human being especially Christians must strive to live an impactful life while on earth.

Mourning his son-in law, Professor Okafor also a former Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus recalled the fond memories he had with Dr Onebunne, noting that he was a global citizen who lived his life for others and always made efforts to better the wellbeing of people around him.

The widow of the Late Dr Onebunne, Ifeoma, and his first daughter, Chisom could not hold back their tears as they said that the deceased was a husband, a father and a role model anybody will desire to have.

 

They promised to live out his legacies by promoting the ideals Dr Onebunne held dear while he was alive.

 

Other mourners including Professor Lawrence Okoro who led the delegation of the United Nations Support Office, Somalia to the burial ceremony and a former Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Chief Anagbogu said the deceased was a peace builder whose achievements will outlive .

An elder brother to the deceased, Mr Joseph Onebunne, in a vote of thanks on behalf of the Onebunne family said he is proud to identify with the Late Dr Onebunne who gave his life to improve the quality of other people’s lives and prayed God to accept his soul into his bosom.
