The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze says the 8th State Assembly has shown enough zeal and commitment to meaningful legislative business in the past one hundred days of inauguration.
Briefing newsmen as he marks first one hundred days in office, Right Honourable Udeze noted that the efforts of the present State Assembly so far has facilitated the pace of development in the state in many ways.
The Speaker recounted some of the significant reforms made by the House in the past one hundred days to include inauguration of various House Committee Chairmen and secretaries to enhance the oversight duties of the House, introduction of Tuesday morning prayer by the Speaker to seek God’s face in actualizing the Anambra progressive agenda, Speaker’s open door administrative policy to both the lawmakers and the staff of the legislature to enhance productivity as well as the commencement of House plenary on time to accommodate more business.
Other accomplishments include introduction of about five bills that are at various stages of passage such as the Anambra State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission Bill, Anambra State Trafficking in Persons Prohibition, Enforcement and Administration Bill,2023 and Anambra State Peace Building and Conflict Management Agency Bill among others.
He also highlighted some other areas where the 8th Assembly has done well in terms of Motions on ecological and erosion control, construction and rehabilitation of dilapidated roads, need for improved agriculture and healthcare in the state among others, noting that the House has resolved a total of thirty-three Motions on state’s development and other needs of the people and assured Ndi Anambra that the 8th Assembly would continue to record more accomplishments.
Right Honourable Udeze while thanking Governor Chukwuma Soludo massively for the comprehensive rehabilitation and reconstruction work going on at the legislative building complex and offices, commended the Governor for continuous implementation of the resolutions of the House in his transformation agenda, describing it as a motivation for the lawmakers to work harder.
He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the unity and peace witnessed in the Legislature as well as their commitment to duty.
The Speaker commended the staff of the Legislature for their cooperation and dedication to duty in the past one hundred days of the 8th Assembly and urged them to shun acts capable of bringing disaffection among them.
