Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has expressed strong confidence in the ability of South Eastern Nigeria to assemble their wealth of ideas and resources to pull the region back to its old glory.

 

The Governor who stated this during this year’s Igbo Day, brought together by Ohanézè Ndigbo Worldwide, emphasized that it is achievable using the force of unity.

The event which was held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu had the theme, “Igbo Kunie”.

 

The Governor who revealed that the South East Governors are strongly behind the Apex Igbo Organisation under Senator Emmanuel Iwunayanwu, called on Ndi Igbo irrespective of political affiliation, to rally round the leadership to advance the region.

The Governor recalled the glory days of the region during the days of the likes of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr. Michael Okpara, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Akanu Ibịam, among others, tasking Ohanézè Ndigbo on leading the way towards developing a comprehensive progressive road map for the region that has the potential to usher in a new lease of life into the region.

 

While appreciating Ohanézè for the gathering, Governor Soludo admonished Ndị Igbo to remain optimistic of a brighter future in the areas of security and other sectors, which he explained will continue to improve with time.

 

For the Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, the Ìgbo cultural heritage should be preserved as a way of maintaining the Ìgbo identity, stressing that it has the capacity of becoming a revenue earner if well harnessed.

 

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr Francis Nwifuru, represented by his Deputy, Princess Patricia Obila, believes that the new found unity among the South East Governors will no doubt enthrone a more prosperous region.

On his part, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Iwunayanwu enumerated the prospects replete in Ìgbo land, expressing the determination of the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo to bridge the gap and use those God-given potential to make the region a choice destination.

Chief Iwuanyanwu added that the association is willing to aid the Ohaneze Business Council to harness partners for the mining of coal, pointing out that having concluded a study on limestone, the region has enough raw materials to produce cement on a very large scale.

The event which witnessed cultural displays, attracted notable sons and daughters of Igbo extraction from all walks of life.
