On Friday, 6th of October, 2023, all roads will lead to Paul University, Awka for her fourth convocation ceremony. The ceremony will feature among other things, convocation lecture to be delivered by a former President and Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, Mr Val Ozigbo. The occasion will also feature the installation of His Grace, the Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria as the Chancellor of Paul University.

 

Three hundred and eighty-eight granduands will be admitted to First Degrees and Diplomas, while five notable Nigerians will be conferred with Honorary Doctorate degrees. Some deceased friends and pillars of the University will receive posthumous meritorious Award.

 

The Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, is expected at the occasion as the Chief Guest of Honour, while His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, is expected to be the special Guest of Honour.

 

The event will also have in attendance Archbishops and Bishops of the fifty-five Dioceses, East of the Niger, other members of the clergy, the National Joint Council of Knights, members of the academia, traditional rulers and other prominent personalities.

 

The event is scheduled to start by eleven o’clock in the morning at the university auditorium – Nwawka Building.

 

It will be recalled that on October 3, 2009, the Federal Government through the National Universities Commission (NUC) granted permission to the Anglican Church, East of the Niger to operate Paul University. On Monday, 30th November,

2009, the University was inaugurated and on first December of the same year, the foundation students of the university went into residence. The pioneer students graduated on tenth October 2014 in a colourful convocation ceremony.

 

In its thirteen years of existence, the university has grown in leaps and bounds. Under the leadership of the present Vice Chancellor, Venerable Professor Obiora Nwosu, the University now has more than twenty-six first degree courses and diplomas, covering various faculties such as Arts, Education, Law, Management and Social Sciences, and Natural and Sciences. This is in addition to the establishment of college of postgraduates studies headed by the Provost, Prof Godwin Onu who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration.

 

According to the Vice Chancellor, Venerable Prof. Nwosu, many more lucrative and attractive academic programmes will soon be introduced in the University.

 

So, as Paul University celebrates her fourth convocation in grand style, it is hoped that the convocation will be an epoch-making event. Date again for the convocation is October 6, 2023 beginning at 11am.
