In celebration of the rich cultural heritage and vibrant artistic creativity of Anambra State, the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism in Partnership with the Society of Nigerian Artists, SNA, has opened its doors to the public, promising a diverse and enlightening experience.

 

The exhibition Colloquium, held in Awka, has brought together a remarkable array of artists, scholars, and enthusiasts to explore the intersections of culture, tradition, and contemporary art.

The event also showcased the profound influence of Anambra’s cultural diversity on its artistic expression.

 

From traditional Igbo sculptures to contemporary visual arts, the Anambra Arts Colloquium Exhibition featured a wide spectrum of artistic media and forms, intricate beadwork, colorful fabrics, and intricate wood carvings that pay homage to the state’s cultural traditions.

Speaking at the event , the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji said it was a platform for artists to express themselves and for all to come together and appreciate the beauty of their traditions.

In her welcome address at the Colloquium Exhibition, the Director for Arts, Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mrs. Chioma Ifediora said the event was not just about admiring art but also about fostering dialogue and intellectual exchange, expressing hope that through the programme many young talents in Anambra State will have the platform to enhance it.

The Chairman Organizing Committee, Mr. Marcel Manafa said that the event underscored the potency of art to bridge the past and present, honoring cultural roots while embracing the ever-evolving dynamics of creativity.

Discussants at the event who spoke extensively on the theme of the programme, “Arts: Organic Innovative Solution for Economic Prosperity”, including Professor Cliff Nwanna commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo initiative in making Anambra State a liveable homeland and a place to nurture young talents that will give back to the Society.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, expressed excitement about the exhibition’s potential to showcase Anambra’s artistic talent and preserve its cultural heritage for future generations noting that the exhibition is a testament to the enduring spirit of the people and their commitment to celebrating culture through art.

In their various remarks, Mrs. Edith Ikenye a representative from Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC and an Entrepreneur, Sir Chuka Nnabuife extolled the works of arts from various distributors, offering a deeper understanding of the art on display and its significance in the context of Anambra’s cultural tapestry.
