Stakeholders at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra Security Summit have called for collaboration among the media, government at all levels and security agencies in order to end the era of negative security reports, as well as entrenching a secured environment.

 

Speakers at the summit organized by the Anambra State Council of the Union maintained that journalists have a crucial role to play in achieving the desired results.

The security summit had the theme “Understanding State Image and Responsiveness In Security Reporting In Contemporary Nigeria: Anambra As A Case Study’

 

According to a former Director General of the Bureau for Public Procurement, Dr. Emeka Eze who is the keynote speaker at the event, the subject of discourse is very apt and strategic at this critical time in Anambra state and Nigeria in general, where insecurity has taken over the national debate and believed that the outcome of the summit would help to proffer solution to the problems.

Dr. Eze represented by the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment, Dr. Nelson Omenugha called on media organizations to use their platforms to positively project the image of the state which has been known for the industry, trade and commerce, academic excellence and literary prowess among others.

 

Another Speaker at the event, Dr. Kenneth Osayi of Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, opined that journalists through their various media can alter and modify people’s opinions, and report what will help to improve the societ.

Earlier, the Anambra state chairman of NUJ, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu who thanked their guests for honouring their invitation, said that the Union has been doing everything it could to help the state government and other relevant stakeholders to make Anambra a better place to live and assured that the Anambra NUJ will continue to discharge its duties efficiently and in the interest of the people.

 

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye, represented by the State Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Administration, Mr. David Ilayonomon, representatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service among others made inputs on how best to collaborate for a more secured Anambra.

The Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government employee (NULGE), Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe, owners of private security outfits were among those that graced the summit.
