Nnokwa community in Idemili South Local Government Area was thrown into mourning as they bid farewell to the late Chief Kelvin Okpalaeze, who passed away at the age of seventy-two

 

The Late Chief Okpalaeze, was a cabinet member of the community and the eldest brother to the Director, News and Current Affairs, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze,

The deceased popularly known as Ikwellenze Chukwujekwu, who hails from Ubili village, Nnokwa, was a Catholic and a community leader .

 

His funeral ceremony brought together gathering of family, friends, and individuals from various backgrounds, including the traditional ruler and cabinet Chiefs of the community, who came to pay their final respects.

The procession began at his residence before proceeding to the palace of the traditional ruler, Igwe Emmanuel Ajamma, as part of the customary rites due to a cabinet member.

 

Later, the procession moved to the church for requiem mass at Saint Mary’s Parish Nnokwa, where Very Reverend Father Aloysius Ikekwe reflected on the inevitability of death, emphasizing that regardless of age, it remains a painful experience, urging the grieving family not to despair but to find solace in the knowledge that the Late Chief Okpalaeze dedicated himself selflessly to serving God and humanity.

The Late Chief Okpalaeze’s body was interred at his compound, a solemn moment that left many in contemplative silence.

 

The management and staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, led by the Managing Director Sir Chido Obidiegwu, were present to offer their condolences to Mr. Gab Okpalaeze for the loss of his brother.

The Traditional Prime Minister of the Community, Chief Richard Okelue recognized the impactful role that the Late Okpalaeze played in the community.

 

The Late Chief Okpalaeze’s brother Gab, described him as someone who abhorred selfishness, division, discrimination, and segregation and possessed a unique blend of wisdom, kindness, and resilience that touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him, praying God to grant his soul eternal rest.

 

Children of the deceased Mr. James and Miss Jenny Okpalaeze, shared fond memories of their late father.

 

The event’s highlights included condolences, visits by in-laws, friends and well-wishers, masquerade displays, and a traditional dance performed by the first son of the deceased Kelvin Okpalaeze and the cabinet Chiefs, the final Ofala ceremony in honor of the Late Chief Okpalaeze.
