Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, in Anambra State has joined its counterparts globally to mark this year’s World Post Day which had its theme as “Together for Trust: Collaborating for A Safe and Connected Future”.

 

The World Post Day is celebrated on the ninth of October annually to create awareness on the importance and services of postal service establishments in the society.

 

In an address, the Director-General of the Universal Postal Union International Bureau, Mr Masahiko Metoki who spoke through the Post Master General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service Mr Sunday Adepoju represented by Anambra Postal Manager Dr Mark Ogba while noting that Universal Postal Union has been a dedicated partner in building a safe and connected global network that serves nearly eight billion people each day with modern and secure services, said that posts are embarking on a massive digital transformation to offer secure online services in this fourth industrial revolution.

 

He explained that the Universal Postal Union has set an ambitious target to ensure that every post office has sufficient access to the internet by 2030, to enhance digital inclusion of the underserved hundred thousand communities that are missing out on a wide range of digital, financial and social inclusion services that these posts could offer.

 

Mr Metoki emphasized that the theme which is “Together for Trust: Collaborating for a Safe and Connected Future” is a call to action for all governments and their postal operators to support the development of a digital single postal territory to match the physical network built over centuries.

 

Contributing, the Head of Operations NIPOST, Anambra State, Mr Christopher Okpala encouraged staff to be committed to duty and always contribute their quota in promoting the image of the establishment by rendering quality services to the customers in order to gain more of their trusts and patronages.

 

Staff of the Anambra State NIPOST led by Postal Manager, Dr Ogba later embarked on a sensitization walk which kicked off at the Awka Post Office and terminated at the Eke-Awka Market.
