With successful match draws, all is now set for the kick off of the 2023 Anambra State Traders Sports Competition.

 

A total of eighty-two registered markets across the State were drawn in eight groups for the preliminary stage of the competition.

 

The competition, scheduled to commence on eighteenth of October, will feature football, tennis, table tennis, draught and ncho.

 

Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr Patrick Onyedum, and President-General of Anambra State Amalgamated Market Traders Association, ASMATA, Mr Humphrey Anuna, were on ground to supervise the match draw exercise.

 

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr Onyedum, said that the Soludo administration approved the expansion of the traders’ competition, which used to feature only football, in order to encourage greater inclusivity.

 

He said that over ten million naira has been mapped out for the fiesta with winners of the football event carting home three million naira, two million and one million naira respectively, while winners in tennis, table tennis, draught and ncho will go home with five hundred thousand naira, three hundred thousand naira and two hundred thousand naira each respectively for their efforts.

 

Mr Onyedum commended the various markets for their enthusiasm and readiness to be part of the competition, adding that winners in the preliminaries will progress to the State finals, which will climax on twenty-sixth November.

 

On his part, the President-General of Anambra State Amalgamated Market Traders Association, Mr Anuna, said the draws marked the formal commencement of activities ahead of the official kick off.

 

He urged the markets to play by the rules of the competition and compete fairly, expressing optimism that participants will come out healthier and richer after the competition.
