Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON has called on manufacturers and service providers to embrace standardization to enhance development and expansion of their businesses.

 

The Director General of the organization, Mallam Farouk Salim made the call at a one-day SON Sensitization/ awareness creation workshop for stakeholders in Nnewi.

Presenting an address, Mallam Salim represented by the Director Anambra Regional Operations, Mr Mathias Bassey said that standardization is a framework of agreements to which all relevant parties in organization must adhere to ensure that all processes associated with production of goods and provision of services are done within a set guideline.

He noted that the sensitization programme with the theme “Expanding Frontiers of Local Manufacturer Via Standardization” is important since standardization is key for any meaningful industrialization and development activity to take place, adding that the role of manufacturers and service providers in the socio-economic development of Nigeria cannot be over emphasized.

In his opening remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Director General, Chief Emeka Duru stated that the standardization programme is a platform that is set up to ensure that SON as a regulatory agency create opportunity to interact with stakeholders in the industry sector since without them there will be no SON, urging the participants to learn well and apply well.

 

On his part, the state Coordinator Anambra state Office Two, Nnewi, Mr. Michael Ogbuji, said the forum will go a long way in helping local manufacturers expand the frontiers of their businesses and will also give importers the mind set to consider standardization while importing goods.

In his speech, the Anambra state Commissioner for Industry, Mr Christian Udechukwu represented by Mr Eloka Maduekwe commended SON for organizing such workshop which he said, is of great importance to both local manufacturers and importers, assuring that Anambra will partner SON in the fight against counterfeit.

 

Presenting a paper, the Director National Metrology Institute, Enugu, Mr Onucheyo Enebi while speaking on “Expanding the Frontiers of Local manufacturers through standardization” spoke extensively on key way in which standardization can help local manufacturers expand their reach and competitiveness.

Others who spoke at the event include the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu represented by Prince Obi Orizu and chairman Electrical market Obosi, Mr Johnbosco Onunkwo among others.

 

The workshop featured questions and answers, group photograph and issuance of certificate to participants.
