It was going down memory lane as Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Community Radio; UNIZIK 94.1 fm celebrated it’s fifteen years anniversary.
The anniversary attracted commendations from many stakeholders who confirmed that the radio station has groomed a lot of talents for the media industry both locally and internationally.
according to the Director of UNIZIK fm, Professor Ifeoma Dunu, the radio station has indeed come a long way from it’s beginning, given the fact that it is a community radio which thrives on self efforts and selfless services to run its operations.
Professor Dunu appreciated the Vice Chancellor of the University; Professor Charles Esimone and other stakeholders who actualized the licensing and establishment of the radio station including Professor Stella Okunna and Professor Kate Omenugha amongst others for their continued support to ensure that the radio station keeps living up to it’s responsibilities and ; blazing the trail for others.
The Vice Chancellor of UNIZIK, Awka, Professor Esimone, who was honored with the title ‘Omekokwulu’ for his support to the campus radio, in his remark during the event, commended the staff for their work and resilience in running the radio station despite the challenge of funding and other obstacles and emphasized that the stations will sustain success stories .
Also speaking, the Station’s Manager, Mrs. Ify Obi who expressed satisfaction with the success achieved by the station since it commenced operation in 2008, assured that they would uphold innovations.
The Chairman on the occasion, Chief Kenneth Ifekudu, who was represented by his aide, enjoined the radio station to effectively sensitise the masses, on solution to challenges in the society
Others who spoke during the event including the Director UNIZIK, Awka Center for Arts, Culture and Humanities, Professor Nkechinyere Nwokoye, Architect Chukwudi Ezenwa and Mr. Benjamin Ezemma also commended the station for living up to it’s name over the years, urging students to leverage on the opportunities while remaining innovative for the future.
The event climaxed with the decoration of the VC,, award presentation to patrons, including Reverend Father Professor Bonachristus Umeogu, cutting of anniversary cake and poem rendition by the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka which left the audience excited amongst other activities.
