The streets of Onitsha the ancient kingdom stood still as Onitsha youths came out in their numbers to showcase the Rich Cultural Heritage of the town.
They were all adorned in various traditional attires depicting various constituent heads of the town.
The youth carnival reports that it was geared towards creating awareness of the Ofala Onitsha Festival which will follow suit the following day.
Every Onitsha youth looks forward to this annual great carnival.
It has become a tradition for the Globalcom Limited an indigenous telecommunication Industry to sponsor this great event, Ofala Onitsha which has gained both national and international recognition.
Speaking to the ABS in an interview, the National President Onitsha Youth Council, Barrister Alex Ofiah and his Vice who is also the Chairman Ofala Onitsha Youth Carnival Planning Committee, Comrade Onyekachi Chukwurah said the Youth Carnival is the prototype of Ofala Onitsha Festival which will proceed the following day aimed at showcasing the Rich Cultural Heritage of Ndi Onitsha.
They maintained that the carnival is also aimed at redirecting the minds of the younger generation to the core values of their custom and tradition which must be up held to avoid extinction since one’s culture is one’s identity.
Also speaking the Lady President Onitsha Youth Council Mrs. Chizoba Anyaoke-Ikwueme and a Youth Leader in charge of Waste Management Onitsha North Council Area, Mr. Chukwunweike Ibegbue thanked God for a successful outing which according to them was a dream come true.
They both advised the youths to remain focused, dedicated in their life endeavors, get educated and acquire skills for them to be self-reliance and called on parents to prioritize the welfare of their children for a better tomorrow.
Highpoint of the event were dance by various constituent groups while the royal dance of Egwuota by the youths imitating Ndichie Onitsha added colour to the event.
