Chief Mrs. Nkiru Ifezue has been initiated into the prestigious Otu Odu society of Nri Ancient Kingdom as Iyom Chinawaluzo.

 

The event, which took place at Chief Dom Ifezue Estate, Uruofolo Village, Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, was graced by friends and family of the celebrant, members of Otú Ọdụ Nri, community stakeholders and other illustrious sons and daughters of the community.

The initiation ceremony commenced with traditional rituals of the society.

 

Chief Mrs Ifezue, the honoree, was adorned in white regalia, decorated with coral beads on her neck, spotting a large “nza” or Horsetail, a hand fan, called Akupe on both hands which had her Iyom title boldly written in front and back of it signifying her new role and status.

 

During the ceremony, traditional dances and songs that captivated the audience graced the atmosphere.

In her acceptance speech, Chief Mrs. Ifezue expressed gratitude to God who made it possible for her to be alive and pledged to serve the community with unwavering dedication, while stressing the importance of passing down cultural knowledge to younger generations and working with others to address the challenges faced by the community.

 

Speaking to the ABS, the mother of the celebrant, Mrs. Caroline Ifezue, thanked God for sustaining her life despite her health conditions, even as she prayed to God to continue to bless and protect her daughter.

On his part, a brother to the celebrant, Chief Clem Ifezue explained that Iyom symbolizes the strength of women as leaders and guardians of their traditions which embodies the values and wisdom that their community promotes.

 

Mrs. Ijeoma Ifezue and Reverend Father Patrick Okaofor charged the celebrant to use her new office to make positive changes in Nri community and Nigeria at large, urging her to always stand by the truth.

The Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu who graced the event noted that the Iyom title or Otu Odu society are the most revered and coveted society for women in Igboland that signifies prestige, honor, affluence and respect among women and charged her to make good use of her office to better the lives of others.
