The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Mr. Thankgod Anago, has flagged off the distribution of writing materials to pupils and students in the schools across the ten communities that make up the council area.
In a brief remark during the commencement of the first phase of the exercise, which commenced at Egede Primary School, Achalla, Mr Anago stated that the gesture is one among his promises to support and encourage pupils and students, as well as schools during his meeting with Headmistresses and Headteachers of primary schools in the council area.
The TC Chairman added that the writing materials being shared are to complement the recently announced and implemented free education policy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in Anambra State.
According to Mr. Anago, as Governor Soludo’s government has said no to payment of any fees across government primary and junior secondary schools in Anambra, Awka North under his stewardship is supporting the laudable initiative of the Governor by saying that no pupil, student and their parents should go through the harsh economic realities of buying writing materials.
He added that he would continue to initiate and support programmes that would ensure that quality education is delivered across schools in Awka North Local Government Area.
Mr. Anago encouraged the pupils and students to be committed to their studies now that Anambra State has a Governor and government that loves and supports academic excellence, urging the Headmistresses to be diligent in their duties.
Schools visited during the exercise were Egede Primary School, Achalla, Central School Achalla, Community Primary School, Achalla and Udoka Primary School Achalla, all in the local government area.
