Governor Chukwuma Soludo says his administration is committed to building smart youths, in order to actualize the livable and prosperous Anambra.

 

Governor Soludo was speaking during the presentation of a start-up grant of two billion naira as empowerment for Batch One beneficiaries of the One Youth, Two Skills programme of his administration.

The Governor reiterated that human capital is the state’s greatest resource and described the youths as the bridge to the future.

 

Governor Soludo stated that the duty of the government is to ensure that the youths and children have the skills and knowledge thereby laying the foundation for the dream Anambra pointing out that the skill set acquired by the beneficiaries makes the programme a unique Anambra brand.

The Governor further noted that the target is not just to let the poor breathe but to let the poor stand and run and expressed the hope that the start-up grants given to the beneficiaries will expand to create job opportunities and lead to the development of a formidable human capital that is productive at home and exportable abroad.

He congratulated the new entrepreneurs and urged them to take that first bold step to be successful, assuring that the government will provide them with one year of mentoring, and the support they need to succeed.

 

Governor Soludo appreciated the Master Trainers, UNIZIK Business School, and all EDIs that offered their resources for a successful training programme and welcomed partnership from Ndi Anambra on the One Youth, Two Skills project, with the target to increase the number of beneficiaries.

In addition to the two-billion-naira empowerment grant, the Governor also issued certificates of completion to the beneficiaries.

 

He revealed that beneficiaries who need more funds to scale up their businesses can approach the Anambra Small Scale Business Agency for loans of up to five million naira.

 

Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba maintained that the key target of the one youth, two skills scheme is to raise one thousand Youth Millionaires annually and to make Anambra State the skill hub of the west African sub region.

He expressed the hope that in the next two years, the beneficiaries will become employers of labour and Anambra will be the land of thriving Small and Medium Enterprises and smart young entrepreneurs, being the achievable vision of Governor Soludo.

 

The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Empowerment Dr Nelson Omenugha, Members of Anambra State Executive Council, Traditional Rulers, among others attended the event.
