The ongoing issues of rivalry, leadership positions and unequal remuneration among healthcare professionals in Nigeria have been recognized as major factors contributing to the dysfunctionality of the healthcare system.

 

In response to these challenges, the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, has organized the 2023 Professional Summit, aimed at addressing the issues and promote, collaboration in the healthcare sector.

The event with the theme, “Professional Synergy in Healthcare Provision; A Panacea For Quality and Stable Health,” gathered members from various professional bodies under the association.

 

Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria serves as the umbrella organization and authoritative voice for recognized professional institutes, institutions, societies and associations, with the aim of fostering cooperation among professionals in Nigeria.

In his remark at the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Honourable Pauly Onyeka, expressed appreciation to the association and called for its continuity.

 

He emphasized that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is committed to ensuring equal treatment and providing the best for the people of Anambra State.

During the event, the President of the association, Mr. Manason Rubainu, represented by Engineer Sunday Ali, stressed the importance of addressing challenges in the Nigerian healthcare system, such as professional participation, practices and ethical conduct, emphasizing it’s relevance for sustainable development of the health sector.

 

Also in his remark, the Chairman of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria in Anambra State, and State Director of National Population Commission, Dr. Joachim Ulasi, called for collaboration between the association and the Anambra State Government.

He highlighted the association’s focus on promoting professionalism and development through interaction, cooperation and commitment to set objectives.

 

Guest lecturer of the event, Mr Josephat Obasi, emphasized the significance of fostering communication, teamwork and collaboration in improving healthcare and reducing mortality rates associated with poor inter-professional collaboration.

 

The event also featured presentation of awards to individuals who had demonstrated professional excellence, contributed to economic development of the state and engaged in humanitarian efforts.

Among the awardees were the traditional ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Pharmacist Alex Onyido, first female Professor of Mass Communication in Sub-Saharan Africa, Professor Stella Okunna, Managing Director of Lovebite Bread, Mr. Okwudili Nwosu, and the immediate past President of Aguata Diocesan Council of Knights, Sir Isaiah Ezeezika among others.
