The closed lane of the Oba axis of Onitsha -Owerri express road would be opened for use before Christmas this year.

The site manager of Benijaf construction company limited, Engineer Tunde Adelowo, announced this while fielding questions from ABS correspondent Ngozi Obileri who monitored the pace of work on the road.

Work commenced on the twelfth of September on the site this year which was affected by gully erosion and subsequently, was closed down against traffic.

Ever since then, erosion control work has been on-going at the site with the channelization of the flood water through construction of big drains to contain the volume of water from Awada, parts of Obosi, Okpoko and others.

While casting of drainage is set to commence in one part of the road, it was already on going on other parts of the project.

Speaking on the development, Engineer Adelowo said that they have filled the gully erosion to a certain level and will fill the remaining part within some weeks once they are done with the drainage.

He noted that the work would require compacting of the earth work such that it can comfortably carry any volume of traffic during the yuletide, after which they will include laying stone base, MC one and then asphalt.

Contributing, one of the resident Engineers in charge of the project, Engineer Godwin Orjiakor noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo responded immediately the devastation was caused, and moved men and materials to the site and expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work on the road.
