The 2023 Advent Prayer Convention of the Anglican Diocese of Awka has ended.
The programme which is the thirteenth in the series, took place at the Chapel of Redemption, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Permanent Site Awka was attended by clergy, other church workers in the twenty-one Archdeaconries of the Diocese, their wives, Knights and Ladies auxiliary among others.
This year’s edition has its theme as “The Lord, He Is God!” and featured prayers for the people, church, Anambra State and the country, healing, deliverance, salvation and testimonies.
Speaking at the convention, the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, and Bishop of Awka Diocese Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim said that the theme of the convention addressed the issue of the Lordship of Christ as it concerns idolatry, stating that the biblical Prophet Elijah confronted idolatry in his own days, stood out without compromising and defending the kingdom of God because he was with him.
Most Reverend Ibezim regretted that many young people are going back to idolatry reminding Christians that Jesus Christ is Lord and will energize them as he did in the days of Prophet Elijah.
The guest preacher at the convention, Most Reverend Timothy Yahaya who is the Archbishop Ecclesiastical, Province of Kaduna and Bishop, of Kaduna Diocese explained that every altar that is inconsistent with the altar of God shall be pulled down and advised Christians to abstain from sin and embrace the word of God.
For the President, Women’s Ministry, Province of the Niger and Diocese of Awka, Dr Martha Ibezim, God has demonstrated His goodness to the Diocese by helping them successfully to host the prayer convention.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Planning Committee of the Convention, Venerable Solomon Chidoka said that the theme was carefully chosen to address the menace of idol worship, love of money and quest for earthly wealth that is quickly taking over the land and asked the youths to embrace God.
Most Reverend Ibezim later announced the 2024 Awka Diocesan theme as ‘The Glory of God” while special
renditions and thanksgiving also featured.
