It was a display of Awka cultural heritage and a colourful event during the Ozo Awka title ceremony of Chief Chukwuka Ekwunife at Ezinator Ifite, as family, friends and well-wishers came to identify with him on his new status .
The spectacular event commenced with the arrival of Ozo Awka titled men to the event with their title name and the sound of egwu uvio being played along.
Speaking on the significance of taking the title, Ozo Obi Ochije-Modililm, a community leader, explained that the title is taken by one who has achieved great level of success in his personal and communal life and a person of means with dignity and respect within the community, which Chief Ekwunife is found worthy to belong to the prestigious Ozo Awka, after scaling through the processes of initiation.
Ozo Ochije Modililm emphasized that the process of taking the title is tedious, to ensure that those who take the title are well deserving and it is not fetish in any way, wishing Ozo Ekwunife well, urging him to remain a great ambassador of Awka.
Speaking to the ABS after his Ozo title rites, which includes handing over of Ozo staff, ‘ngu ozo’ hand fan, anklets and red cap with four feathers, Ozo Ekwunife with the title name ‘Nwatachinamaluoji’ expressed happiness for attaining the title, which he noted is no small feat, as the title name depicts God’s goodness in his life.
His wife, Ojiefi Angel Ekwunife thanked God for the big title her husband has attained, appreciating the husband for being a wonderful man and prayed for continued God’s blessings upon him.
A brother to Ozo Ekwunife, Chief Chukwujekwu Ekwunife and a son, Mr. Chukwuka Ekwunife said that it is a big honour for the family to witness Ozo Ekwunife attain the title and wished him well on his new position.
A guest and friend to Ozo Ekwunife, Chief Benjamin Okoye noted that Ozo Ekwunife is a bosom friend and said that taking the Ozo Awka title is a great achievement, urging him to always stand on the path of truth and Justice as expected of him.
Ozo James Eze, one of the oldest Ozo Awka men presided over the ceremony, featuring egwu uvio dance by Ndi Ozo Awka, Ndi Ojiefvi amongst others.
