Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has reassured that women will continue to play pivotal roles in the developmental goals of the present administration in the State.

 

She spoke during a meeting aimed at engaging the women on pertinent social issues and to interact with them ahead of the yuletide held at the Governor’s Lodge.

Groups at the meeting included present and past APGA women leaders, wives of members of Anambra State House of Assembly and public servants, female public servants and lawmakers, wives of Anglican and Pentecostal bishops, and religious women leaders.

 

Others were present and past female commissioners, market women leaders, wives of traditional rulers, community women leaders, and wives of service chiefs, among others.

Addressing the women, Mrs Soludo explained that the state government understands the human capital strength of women and is very intentional in coming up with strategic plans that favour women.

 

She explained that investing massively in the health sector, most reforms have given birth to positive statistics, with Anambra currently leading the front among states with the lowest maternal and infant deaths in Nigeria.

On Christmas, Mrs Soludo urged the women to share love and ensure that those around them benefit from their kind actions.

 

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Anambra State, Dr Afam Obidike disclosed that through the free antenatal care and delivery services, over one thousand three hundred births have been recorded in the state since the policy was introduced.

He equally noted that the current administration is strategic in the execution of every development policy, with a long-term focus of making concrete impact on each sector of the state.

 

A medical expert, Dr Ifeatu Oranusi, who presented a lecture on preventing and managing breast cancer, asked the women to avoid common causes like unhealthy lifestyles and poor diets, and genetic factors, and also taught them the rudiments of self-examination, and also to go for routine medical checks.

She also disclosed that Anambra is among the first five states in Nigeria that have established the greatest number of primary health centres, and urged the women to take advantage of the accessible health services to get themselves diagnosed and treated.

 

The women were later addressed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who tasked them on leading the campaign to address growing social menace, beginning from their homes.

Wife of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, lady Oluchi Ibezim, that of the National Chairman of APGA, Mrs Chioma Ezeokenwa, wife of Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Dr Martha Ibezim, among others attended the event.
