In line with the Anambra state government agenda on healthy living for all, the Kunie Health Outreach Platform has organized a one-day free medical outreach for the residents of Ozom, Urunebo in Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.

 

Over two hundred persons benefited from the Kunie medical outreach held at Urunebo town hall Enugwu-Ukwu where the beneficiaries were diagnosed, tested and treated of different illnesses free of charge including free eye surgery and treatment, eye screening, eye glass, free blood pressure and sugar level assessments, vascular disease enlightenment and other illnesses.

Speaking at the event , a brother to the benefactor, Reverend Father Chidebere Ozumba said that they decided to hold the free medical outreach in honour of their father, late Pa Emmanuel Amaechi Ozumba who he described as a veteran teacher, a Catechist and an outstanding community leader.

Reverend Father Ozumba explained that the essence of the free medical outreach was to create awareness and sensitize people on the need to take care of their health first, adding that there are certain sicknesses people can manage and prevent on their own if they have knowledge of such through awareness creation.

Another brother of the benefactor, Mr. Emeka Ozumba stated that the Kunie medical outreach is a Health and Wellness Platform on social media promoted by Dr. Chigozie Ozumba which he has done across nations and now decided to organise it for his people of Urunebo Community Enugwu-Ukwu in memory of their late father Pa Emmanuel Ozumba to reach out to people who do not have access to health care and other services.

 

He said that more importantly was the advocacy and enlightenment as some of the diseases people suffer today are mostly born out of habit and lack of attention to one’s health, noting that six medical doctors in different fields were engaged in this first edition of the Kunie medical outreach to attend to the health needs of the people.

A medical doctor who attended to people during the outreach, Dr. Obinna Arinze who said the wonderful initiative is an opportunity for the people to access and improve their health condition, added that some people diagnosed noticed for the first time, they have diabetes, high blood pressure and other illnesses while Dr. Ifeanyi Iloka, while educating the participants on Buruli Ulcer explained to them how it can be contacted, prevented and treated which includes good hygiene, noting that people misconceive other kinds of conditions as Buruli Ulcer and urged people to avoid things that triggers it, such as smoking of cigarette and intake of alcoholic drinks.

 

On his part, the Transition Committee Chairman for Njikoka Local Government Area, Mr. Clem Aguiyi commended the Kunie initiative, saying it is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda of improving health of the people and human capital development, urging others to emulate the Ozumba family.

Some of the beneficiaries including Messrs Chuka Obiekwe, Linus Okaforocha and Mrs. Roseline Chukwurah thanked the benefactor Kunie Health and Wellness platform and the Ozumba family of Enugwu Ukwu for their benevolence which they said has helped them to access medical treatment.
