With an interdenominational prayer, festival of nine lessons and carols Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe has ended the year 2023 in grand style.

 

Members of the academic community filled the College Auditorium for the annual event presided over by the Chaplain, Saint Catherine Catholic Chaplaincy, Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Reverend Father Dr. Ben Udeh, and the Chaplain, Chapel of Holy Spirit Anglican Chaplaincy, Venerable Chidiebere Ifeonu, during which special prayers were offered for the nation, state, staff and students of the institution.

Provost of the College, Dr. Ifeyinwa Osegbo, started the event with first biblical reading from Genesis chapter twenty-two verse fifteen to eighteen, followed by singing of carol one led by the Music Department of the institution.

 

Other biblical readings and singing of carols followed in the same order; lifting the souls of all gathered for the event.

In a homily centred on “Celebration in a turbulent moment like this”, Reverend Father Dr. Ben Udeh regretted the present situation of things in the nation and prayed for a better year 2024.

 

Addressing the gathering, the Provost of the College, Dr. Osegbo, said the outgoing year has been a challenging one for the Management, staff and students of the institution in terms of funds and other necessities, but God’s grace enabled them to keep surmounting obstacles.

She listed accreditation of courses, timely completion of Nigeria Certificate in Education and degree academic programmes, and discipline in the institution as some of her achievements, and expressed optimism that the College will be upgraded to “University of Education” in no distant time.

On behalf of students of the institution, the Students Union Government, President, Comrade Kingsley Anusi, who highlighted the importance of the annual event, as well as other challenges facing the institution, called on the state government to help the College management fix basic infrastructure in the institution.
